No matter what mode of transportation you choose, itโ€™s important to have the best affordable car service to Logan Airport in your back pocket.

Not only does door-to-door service using a reliable car service simplify your journey and de-stress your departure, but it can be affordable too. Plus, for early or late flights and inclement weather, you donโ€™t want to risk the alternatives (which are described below, too). Missing your flight is a costly mistake, even when you have travel insurance.

So, continue reading to discover the car service Iโ€™ve found to be an affordable, reliable way to get to the airport on time, in comfort, and stress-free. It’s the best way to get to Logan Airport and beyond.

10 Easy (and Not So Easy) Ways to Get to Logan Airport

Choose the most reliable transportation option for your early flights to Logan Airport.

As a solo traveler and empty-nester, Iโ€™ve considered many different ways to get the airport. In fact, I’ve personally used most of the options below when departing on trips from the Boston area.

Most recently, I decided to hire an affordable car service to Logan Airport after considering my options.

You should do the same after evaluating your ride choices for getting to Logan Airport and other points of departure nearby.

Here are 10 easy (and not so easy) ways from which to choose when you want to get to Logan Airport in Boston. Or, you can skip right to my review of Rachel’s Big City Transportation to book your ride.

1. Ask a Friend for A Ride

First, you can consider asking a friend or family member for a ride to Logan Airport. This option can be convenient while also providing cost savings.

However, it’s essential to keep in mind the potential inconvenience you may cause to othersโ€”especially if your flight is very early, very late, or during Boston’s notorious rush hour traffic.

Additionally, your flight times might not align with their schedule, causing a further imposition.

Of course, you can offer to reciprocate whenever they need a free ride to the airport. But even if you offer to compensate them for their time and gas, you may not want to rely on a friend’s ride often. Remember, not only do they have to drive you in to the airport, but then they have to turn around and drive themselves home.

Use this option sparingly. At minimum, you’ll want to compensate them for their time and expenses, and maybe even bring them a thoughtful gift from your destination.

2. Drive Yourself & Park

Another option for getting to Logan Airport is to drive yourself. Doing so will give you a higher level of personal control and flexibility.

That said, parking at the airport, especially Logan, can come at a significant cost.

According to a study by Upgraded Points, airport parking is a costly alternative. At the time of writing, the first 48 hours of Terminal Parking at Logan is $82. And, you’ll be charged $41 for each additional day.

To put that in perspective, for 7-day vacation, you’re looking at a parking cost of close to $300.

Moreover, the prospect of leaving your car unattended in a public parking lot for an extended period might raise some security concerns. Not only is your car subject to a potential search, including your trunk, but you waive all liability and will be parking at the airport at your own risk for any damages.

To be fair, thousands of people choose Logan Airport parking every day, and it’s relatively safe. If this is your preferred choice, be sure to reserve a parking spot in advance.

If this option suits you and you’re willing to pay to park, remember it also comes with the stress and potential traffic delays of driving into the city. So, be sure to allow plenty of time for your commute and check for any road or tunnel closures or construction well-before you head for the airport.

3. Take Public Transportation

Option 3: You might choose to rely on Boston’s public transportation system to get to the airport.

Depending on where you live, the commuter rail or the “T” (Boston’s subway system), offers a cost-effective way to get to Logan Airport. You’ll find MBTA buses with Shuttle Busses that provide transportation options to all airport terminals, as well.

In 2019, Wallet Hub ranked Boston as the 2nd Best Public Transit System in the US (second to Seattle Washington).

However, locals know that Boston’s public transportation system has been “off the rails” for the last few years, with delays, stoppages, and poor ratings. So, if you go this route, allow some extra time for mishaps.

Taking public transportation can present another parking issue, too. So, you’ll want to check the rules, potential impoundment, and security risks if you decide to leave your vehicle in public parking lot for an extended period.

Otherwise, public transportation can be a budget-friendly choice for getting to Logan. It also reduces the stress of driving in Boston traffic.

Make sure you pack light, though. You’ll be navigating the public transportation system with your luggage in tow.

4. Hop on the Ferry or Water Taxi

Boston ferry service | Enjoy Travel Life
In pleasant weather, a water taxi or the ferry to the Logan airport is a viable option.

A unique and scenic alternative to reach Logan Airport you may not have considered is by taking a ferry or water taxi.

This mode of transportation allows you to avoid road traffic and enjoy the beauty of Boston’s waterwaysโ€”except in inclement weather. (That’s not so fun.)

You can choose one of the year-round ferry routes between the Charlestown Navy Yard, Hingham, Hull, Long Wharf, and Logan Airport. Or, you can hire a private water taxi service in Boston.

However, the water route may not be convenient to your location, and may have limited ticket availability. It’s not the best choice if you have a lot a luggage or a tight schedule.

If this option works for you, make sure you dress for the elements. You can expect temperatures on the water to be cooler and more windy than on the mainland.

5. Use a Ride-Sharing Service

For the best rates, you can look to Uber or Lyft ride-sharing options in Boston. Depending on how far you are outside the city limits, they are fairly reliable and economical.

You should plan to be at the airport 2 hours ahead of your flight, and as much as 3 hours ahead for international flights. Just allow some extra time in case a driver ghosts you and you need to reschedule.

When your flight leaves early in the morning, and you need a reliable way to get to the airport in the wee hours, you don’t want to take any chances. A ride-share is not a safe bet at those time, in my opinion.

Even reserving ahead is no guarantee that they will come. If you cancel a reserved ride within an hour of pickup, you’ll be charged a fee. So, you can’t really “tag team” the two services (Uber & Lyft) as a backup without incurring an cancelation expense.

Worse, having a no-show driver could cost you your flight.

This is especially problematic if you’re looking for a ride from the suburbs of Boston. If they don’t show… then what? You should always have a “Plan B” if you decide to hire a ride-share to the airportโ€”which may be asking a friend for a ride at the last minute.

6. Call a Taxi

Taxis are often considered more reliable than ride-sharing services, but they may be more expensive.

Still, it’s a reliable mode of transportation that can offer you some peace of mind, especially when you’re heading to the airport. They’re not the most comfortable or clean ride, but they’ll do in a pinch.

However, you may not have many options for a taxi if you live in the suburbs, and the cost can be a significant consideration for budget-conscious travelers.

If you decide to hire a taxi for your ride to Logan airport, see if you can reserve it ahead of time and lock in a set price. You don’t want to worry about sticker-shock when you’re ride is complete.

7. Combine Transportation Options

boston commuter rail | Enjoy Travel Life
Some travelers mix-and-match public transportation options for the most economical ride.

If you’re clever and organized, you can consider combining your transportation options to Logan Airport.

For instance, maybe you could:

  • Drive or get a ride to a local subway station, say, Riverside in Newton Center
  • Take the Green Line to Back Bay Station in Boston
  • Hop on the Back Bay Logan Express Shuttle bus

Likewise, you could head to Braintree and take the Logan Express.

Or, you could take the Commuter Rail train to South Station and then ride-share or taxi to the airport.

You’ll discover endless combinations depending on where you live. This multi-mode of transportation can be a good way to save money.

But it’s at the expense of time, planning, and potentially missed connections.

So, carefully consider whether you want to start your journey off with what could be a complicated series of steps to get to Logan Airport.

(And, don’t forget, you’ll have luggage in tow.)

8. Take a Shuttle from a Nearby Hotel

Here’s an idea worth considering: Stay over at a hotel close to the airport the night before your trip. Then, you can take their free hotel shuttle service to the airport.

This can be a convenient option, especially when you have an early flight. It also allows you to start your travels a day early in a comfortable hotel, like Hilton Boston Logan Airport.

So, it might be worth factoring in an extra night’s stay to your travel budget. Doing so offers you convenience for early flights and will help reduces the transportation stress on your flight day.

However, it does come with an additional cost. You’ll also want to make sure you’re staying over in a safe neighborhood. Finally, depending on your budget, choices for a quality airport hotels may be limited.

9. Rent a Car or Opt for Car Sharing

If your favorite national car rental agency has offices near your home town and the airport, you might consider renting a car overnight. That way, you can drive the rental to the airport, and drop it off at the airport rental office.

You’ll want to look for a special deal, and know that many car rental agencies will price match the competition. You’ll also need to make sure you have the bandwidth on your credit card for the rental car deposit. (It’s usually about $300.)

That said, be prepared for those funds to be tied up for several days until the deposit is released. If you’re on a tight budget for your trip, you may not be able to do without those funds.

Another similar option is to look to Turo, a car share service that offers flexibility and allows you to choose a vehicle that suits your needs.

For instance, you could rent a 2022 Tesla for as little as $59/day. A Porche 911 will set you back a bit more, but it’s a fun way to start any adventure. And some Turo car rental hosts will drop the car off for you at your home and then retrieve it at the airport.

Just book ahead and make sure you understand the costs, deposits, and terms of your Turo rental. It could be a good option from time to time – especially if you want to impress!

10. Hire a Car Service to Logan Airport

If none of the options above are a perfect fit for you, you’ll want to hire a car service to Logan Airport.

That’s what I usually do. It’s the easiest, most reliable, comfortable, stress-free option.

Because I like to book early morning flights or take the red-eye (overnight) flight to maximize my vacation time, I don’t take chances with other transportation options to Logan Airport in Boston.

In my opinion, a hired car service is the only reliable way to reserve your ride for getting picked up in the early morning hours or late at night. It’s helpful too if you live in a place that has bad winter weather, such as snow and ice storms.

Cruising along in a safe black SUV or sedan, you’re insulated from the stress of the drive and know you’re in an expert driver’s hands.

As a solo traveler, this can be a most reassuring option!

However, it typically comes at a higher cost and may have limited availability, especially during peak travel times. So you’ll want to budget for it and book your reservation early.

Some companies offer car service to Logan Airport at a considerable price, so look for a budget-friendly car service instead.

Why Hire a Car for a Ride to the Airport?

hire a car service | Enjoy Travel Life
Choosing the right car service to Logan Airport can affordably provide comfort and reliability.

When it comes to getting to Logan Airport, you now know you have various transportation options to consider, each with its unique set of pros and cons.

However, hiring a car service is the most compelling option for several important reasons:

Offers Comfort and Convenience

Hiring a car service offers unparalleled comfort and convenience. You can relax and focus on your journey without the stress of driving, parking, or dealing with traffic. It provides a seamless and comfortable ride to the airport, which is particularly important when you’re traveling alone or want to start your vacation with a positive experience.

Maximum Reliability

One of the primary advantages of opting for a hired car service is its reliability. This becomes particularly crucial when you’re dealing with early morning flights or bad weather. When you book your reservations, you can rest assured that your ride will arrive promptly. It reduces the anxiety that often accompanies early travel.

Professional Driving Expertise

Professional drivers, often boasting years of experience, provide an unmatched level of expertise. They are well-acquainted with the complexities of navigating the city and know the best routes to ensure a smooth and efficient journey. This expertise is invaluable, ensuring a seamless experience from pick-up to drop-off.

Time Sensitivity to Your Travel Plans

Your travel schedule is extremely time-sensitive. You don’t want to miss your flight because you arrived late to airport and are tied up with the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) process!

When time is of the essence, a hired car service understands the importance of punctuality. They help guarantee that you reach the airport with sufficient time for check-in and security, allowing you to start your journey stress-free.

Seamlessly Track Flight Delays

Professional car services frequently employ tools and systems to monitor flight schedules. This means they can adjust pick-up times in response to any flight delays, further enhancing your peace of mind. You won’t have to worry about being stranded at the airport due to unexpected schedule changes, or arriving for departure too soon when you’re flight schedule has changed.

Personalized Service

In contrast to public transportation or ride-sharing, a hired car service provides a personalized experience tailored to your needs. Whether you require assistance with your luggage or have specific preferences for the car or ride, you can have confidence that they’ll prioritize your comfort and convenience.

High Value for the Price

While hiring a car service may come at a higher cost compared to some other options, it’s essential to consider the value it brings.

The combination of reliability, expertise, and peace of mind makes it a worthwhile investment. And, the assurance that you’ll arrive at the airport on time and in comfort is pricelessโ€”even more so during early morning departures or when you’re likely to face challenging weather conditions.

In summary, hiring a car service for your journey to Logan Airport offers a level of comfort, convenience, reliability, expertise, and personalized service that can be a game-changer. While it may come at a premium, the peace of mind and convenience it provides make it a compelling option to consider for your airport transportation needs.

Now, let’s talk about the cost of booking a car service to Logan.

Pricing for Car Service to Logan Airport

early flight boston | Enjoy Travel Life
Factor in your ride to the airport when you budget for a trip.

When it comes to hiring a car service to reach Logan Airport, pricing can be a significant consideration.

As a seasoned traveler, I’ve encountered a wide range of costs associated with this mode of transportation. In some cases, I’ve paid as much as $250 for a relatively short 45-minute ride from my home to Logan Airport – one way!

While the convenience and reliability of a car service can be invaluable, it’s essential to be prepared for the potential cost. And, you’ll want to book a competitively priced car service.

In addition to the base fare, some car service providers tack on extra charges, such as an early morning pickup fee. This can amount to an additional $25 or more, adding to the overall expense. It’s a surcharge that’s not always evident when booking, so be aware of these potential add-ons when you’re comparing car services

Furthermore, it’s customary to tip the driver when using a car service, typically around 20% of the total fare. While tipping is a standard practice to show appreciation for the service provided, it’s another factor that contributes to the overall cost of the journey.

Therefore, it’s wise to factor in both the base fare and the expected tip when budgeting for a car service to Logan Airport. (Note: It’s handy and preferred to tip your driver in cash when possible.)

Lastly, availability can be a concern, especially during peak travel times such as holiday weekends. Some car service providers may be fully booked. If everyone is booked up, you’ll have to pay a premium for the ride you needโ€”so start looking early.

To get an accurate estimate of the cost, you’ll want to check with several car service providers directly or use their online calculators to factor in the specific details of your journey. Once you find the right service, you’ll likely need to give them your credit card number to secure your booking. (In most cases, they’ll run your card once the ride is complete.)

I recently called several car services to compare availability and pricing for an upcoming trip. Some didn’t have a car when I needed a ride. Others charged a high rate and surcharges for the early ride.

And that’s when I found Rachels Big City Transportation.
